Supporting traditional craft
At La Mesa we take the responsibility of sourcing ethical products seriously. For us this means buying from artisans working in traditional craft. This support, we hope, will go some way to keeping these incredible small industries and skills alive and allow us all to continue to enjoy these beautiful pieces in our homes.
A tablescape created from an eclectic mix of pieces with a story will always look beautiful, keep conversation flowing and grow with you over time.
Let's meet some of our suppliers.
Casa de Folklore
Founded by textile designer Alice Munteanu, Casa de Folklore was created to protect the skills and stories passed down through generations.
Born and raised in Romania, Alice moved to the UK at eleven. Determined not to lose touch with her ancestral roots, Alice spent her early life surrounding herself with traditional Romanian folk art and homewares.
She now works directly with ceramic artisans from Vâlcea county in Romania, who have practised the craft of Horezu pottery since childhood. Each piece is lovingly handmade in a home atelier using traditional techniques.
Shaped on a simple kick wheel, the pieces are then decorated (with natural colours made from local minerals and clays) with traditional motifs, applied with cow horns and wooden sticks. The technique is called "jirăvirea".
Woven Rosa
The idea for Woven Rosa was conceived by its Cheshire-born founders Laura and Tom, during a 24-hour bus ride somewhere between Cusco and Lima while living in Peru in 2019. Captivated by Cusco’s vibrant textiles and the skilled weavers behind them, they envisioned homewares that were colourful, handmade, and rich with stories.
Inspired and determined to tell these vibrant tales, they collaborated with artisans in Cusco to source their inaugural collection - and Woven Rosa was born!
Today, the collections have expanded to also include exquisite home and tableware from Spain and Mexico. Yet, their mission remains steadfast: to create timeless, beautiful homewares in partnership with skilled artisans worldwide.
The ceramics range is made by a father and daughter duo, Cesar & Empar, who work creatively to create contemporary designs using traditional techniques they’ve been practising for over three generations.
Nestled in the hinterland of the Balearic Island of Mallorca, Miguel and his family have been master glass makers for generations. The workshop practices the traditional glass blowing trade whilst also exploring contemporary designs. Each glass and jug is entirely unique and goes through a multi-step skilled process of artisan glass blowing with recycled glass.
